Labelling cold wallets without writing secrets on the sticker
Nickname systems that help multi-wallet families tell devices apart while keeping recovery material off labels and shelves.
Hardware wallets look alike once the packaging is gone. Families in Gangnam and Seocho often keep three devices in the same drawer and rely on memory to know which one holds which purpose.
Nickname rules we use on visits
- Names refer to purpose or era — “Travel spare 2022,” “Long-hold oak,” “Parents’ shared” — never to balances or assets.
- Labels go on the device case or a zip pouch, not on the paper backup.
- The inventory sheet repeats the nickname beside the physical storage location.
What not to write
Anything that reconstructs a seed phrase, passphrase hint that is the passphrase itself, or PIN. If a relative needs more context, put that in a sealed envelope stored separately — and list the envelope on the recovery map without opening it during casual evenings.
After a move
Labels fall off. That is why household recounts exist: refresh nicknames and locations after the furniture shifts.
